A must see in TainanThe fort was originally build in the 15th century by the Dutch to protect its commerce in the East, then taken from them by Caoxingu, a Ming dynasty general who fought against the newly establish Qing dynasty which finally capture it. Of the original fort, only a few walls exist. What is seen today was build by the Qing after its capture to defend this important part of Formosa (Taiwan). The canons displayed are also made by the Chinese army. The tall white tower that looks a little like a airport control tower was erected only in the 1970s to serve as a lighthouse. The museum is a must to understand everything about this fort as it contains numerous historical drawings and pictures. Quite interesting.
FORT ZEELANDIA SMALL MUSEUMThis small museum located in the west side of Fort Zeelandia or Anping Fort. Admission ticket is included in the entrance ticket to Fort. Make time to drop here because usually visitors will skip this place. The museums show the history of the Dutch occupation in Tainan with map, relics and miniature mockups.
Not a must seeWe visited this place on April 21. It is not the actually fort constructed by the Dutch early 17th century. The museum inside the Fort gives you an idea how the Fort would have looked in those days. In the room next to the store is more information about the Fort.
