The Tainan Christmas Lights Festival “Hopeful New Future Series” Shines at US Muse Design Awards with Two Gold and One Silver Awards

A series of festival tourism and lantern art installations are crafted by the Tourism Bureau of Tainan City Government every year over the Christmas and New Year period to create a festive atmosphere and the best venues for city residents and travelers to celebrate. The Tainan Christmas Lights Festival has become one of the highlights that the local people look forward to over the years. It not only lit up the street scape but also embodies the rich cultural heritage and design creativity of Tainan. The Tainan Christmas Lights Festival has once again been recognized with two gold and one silver awards at the Muse Design Awards. This marked the third year in a row that the festival has been featured at the awards and the light of Tainan is now shining forth on the international design stage once more.
Mayor Huang Wei-che said that tourism and travel industries have always been strong performers and recognition from major international design awards was proof of Tainan’s creativity and cultural value. He thanked Prof. Huang Ya-ling at the Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology for her leadership of the teams from KUST and the Yunlin University of Science and Technology. Last year, the two Christmas trees at the Hele and Xinying lantern zones chose “Hopeful New Future” as their theme. The exceptional design concept and flawless execution won the gold award in the Conceptual Design: Exhibition & Events, gold award for Lighting, and silver award for Travel, for a total of 2 golds and 1 silver.
Director-General Lin Kuo-hua from the Tourism Bureau of Tainan City Government thanked the award organizers for their recognition as it allowed the light of Tainan to shine on the international design stage. The City Hall has been responsible for the Christmas decorations for many years. Every year, a lot of goes into the putting up of beautiful and elegant Christmas decorations. The core theme for last year’s Christmas tree was “Hopeful New Future” to embody the values of courage and hope. The theme then served as the basis for connecting the history and culture of Tainan with its future development in order to inspire and encourage city residents. During this momentous time in history, the designs not only pay respect to the past but also represent a vision of the future. They symbolize how Tainan will continue to advance into the next four centuries filled with courage and hope. It is hoped that the decorative lights and art installations will pass on the blessings of the holiday period so that city residents and tourists alike can experience the warmth and charm of Tainan amidst the brilliant lights.
The Tourism Bureau has been hard at work building the domestic and overseas travel market. Initiatives included continued improvements to the travel-friendly reception environment, participating in trade exhibitions and promotion of specialty agricultural products overseas, active development travel business opportunities, raising the international profile of Tainan through city image advertising, and hosting of exciting travel events.
