As the very first city in Taiwan, Tainan has opened its doors to the world for four centuries. Women in particular played an important part in the development of this historic city. To celebrate International Women’s Day on March 8, this issue of Sababoy Leads the Way will lead you into the everyday life of Tainan to search for all the hard-working women down through time and experience their unique and diverse charm. Tainan City Government will also host a Women’s Day event with the theme of “Blooming Flowers, Sparkling Progress at Siraya Square in front of Yonghua Civic Center. Mayor Huang Wei-che invites all city residents to join in celebrating this important day for women.

Director Lin Kuo-hua from the Tourism Bureau of Tainan City noted that women are frequently mentioned in the history of Tainan. They include Lin Mo-niang, the sea goddess who watches over safety of seafarers and her Grand Mazu Temple which is the center of religious belief in Mazu; the Wufei Temple and the statute of Miss Jin at Anping celebrate women who remained steadfast in their love; the former Japanese Patriotic Women's Association is a testament to the spirit of charity among women who cared and served their local community; the former abode of Su Hsue-lin that stands in a corner of National Cheng Kung University campus remembers the story of a writer, professor, and academic who made the protection of culture and knowledge her “Path.” The TV series “The Making of an Ordinary Woman” filmed in Taiwan provided a humorous look at the history of women in Taiwan. The way it linked together the different aspects of Taiwanese women through three generations resonated with the Chinese-speaking society. Women are still working diligently away in their respective fields. They are sisters, friends, mothers, citizens and one of “us.” Come and see “them” in Tainan and learn about yourself as well.

The Sababoy Leads the Way e-newsletter is published each month in the “Travel Tainan” fan badge at different times. The high-quality version can also be downloaded from the “Tainan Travel” website to make planning their next vacation in Tainan quick and easy.

The Tourism Bureau stated that this Saturday will also be International Women’s Day. The International Orchid Show is offering free admission for all women on March 8 - it doesn't get better than that! Three accommodation providers in Tainan (Hotel CHAM CHAM, Grand Banyan Hotel, and Hotel Tainan) are offering exclusive Women’s Day promotions as well. Venues administered by the Tourism Bureau such as the Hutoupi Scenic Area, the Hulupi Nature Park in Guantian, the Deyuanbi Holland Village in Liuying, and the Vanaheim Love Manor are all offering special consumer promotions as well.
