This year, Tainan City took part in the annual NATAS Travel Fair in Singapore for the first time to expand Tainan’s tourism market. For the 3-day travel fair running from February 28 through to March 2, City Hall prepared all kinds of specialty travel information on Tainan and agricultural products. Cheng-Hong Tsai, the Representatives from the Tainan Tourism Industry Alliance and President of Tainan Association of Travel Agents, was invited to sign a mutual agreement on mutual exchange of customers with Hong Thai Travel in Singapore. The two parties will work closely to develop boutique travel packages for Tainan. President Wu Chung-Tai from the Hotel Association of Tainan and President Chou Jung-tang of the Tainan Homestay Culture Association were also invited to witness the contract signing and take part in the networking. Hopefully, this will encourage more Singaporean tourists to visit Tainan in order to experience its cultural and natural beauty in the future.

Tainan City Mayor Huang Wei-Che said that according to statistics from the MOEA International Trade Administration, Singapore was rated as No.1 among the most competitive economies in 2024. Singapore not only has strong tourism demand and buying tower, but there are also frequent flights to Taiwan. Both countries share similar languages and cultural background. A survey conducted by the MOTC Tourism Administration at the 2024 Taiwan Travel Fair in Singapore found that 88.3% of the respondents had visited Taiwan. More than 51% had visited Taiwan more than 3 times so there was a high proportion of repeat visitors. What visitors liked most about Taiwan included the food and natural scenery. Tainan is the foodie capital of Taiwan. Tainan’s street food has even been recommended by the Michelin Guide for their great taste at affordable prices. Tainan, long famed for its street food, has 31 Bib Gourmand restaurants. Another 31 were recommended by the reviewers for a total of 62 restaurants that have won international approval. It was listed by UK-based Time Out as one of the Best Places to Travel in Asia for 2025 so Tainan is a very attractive destination for Singaporean travelers.

Director-General Lin Kuo-hua from the Tourism Bureau of Tainan City Government said that Tainan has been cultivating the Singaporean travel market for many years. Continued promotions have gradually raised Singaporean interest in traveling to Tainan. The signing of the latest tourism industry MOU will not only boost bilateral exchange between the tourism industries, but also introduce more international travelers to the history, culture, and food of Tainan. He therefore hoped for more such exchanges in the future. The Tainan display at the travel fair also featured a variety of travel information and tasting packs for agricultural produce. Visitors to the fair were able to experience the great taste and hospitality of Tainan for themselves. The measures were very well received. City Hall even recommended Singapore travelers to visit Tainan to take part in the “2025 Asia-Pacific Orchid Conference and Taiwan International Orchid Show.” The world-class floral industry event will be hosted in Tainan between March 8 and March 23. The exhibit will feature a custom Singaporean flag made up of orchid flowers that will be sure to catch the eye of tourists. The people of Singapore are therefore invited to join the festivities and explore the beauty of orchids.

Well-known Singaporean signer Ruth Kueo (who is married to a Tainan local) took to the stage at the travel fair as well. She shared her personal experiences of Tainan and strongly recommended this city filled with culture and great food to Singaporeans. Ruth Kueo’s appearance attracted the attention of many fans and made the Tainan exhibit the focus of the travel fair.

The Tourism Bureau stated that Tainan’s exhibit at this year’s NATAS Travel Fair was very popular with visitors. It not only generated a great deal of interest in traveling to Tainan but also meant high marks for the City Hall’s promotion of bilateral tourism. In the future, Tainan City will continue to strengthen its collaboration with the Singaporean travel industry so that more people from Singapore can experience the unique style of Tainan for themselves.
