The friendly interactions between English-speaking volunteers and international visitors represent a triumph of citizen diplomacy as well. Word-of-mouth has spread among travelers and the highly-rated service has now been used by more than 1,000 people since launch.
Tainan City Mayor Huang Wei-che said that Tainan was the first city to be founded in Taiwan. As the founding city of Taiwan, the streets and alley ways of the Old District are filled with history and cultural heritage. Traces of historical buildings and heart-moving stories can be found in every corner. “No visit to Taiwan can be complete without staying in Tainan” is the high praise that international travelers have given to the city. Huang thanked the English-speaking volunteers for using their precious time to show international travelers around the Old City and prove that the most beautiful part of Tainan is the hospitality of its people. This will undoubtedly leave international visitors with great memories of their trip to Tainan.
Director-General Lin Kuo-hua from the Tourism Bureau said that the Bureau currently offers three English-speaking walking tours. The “Classic Tour”, “Local Tour” and “Sea Discovery Tour” routes connect historical monuments and sights, local markets, and traces of Taiwan’s founding history.
