Introduce

Popular Hong Kong singer AGA (Agatha Kong Hoi Kai) has released the theatrical MV for her Mandarin pop song “Cafe Autumn.” In addition to inviting Taiwanese character actors J.C. Lin and Moon Lee to play the role of the male and female leads, she also chose to shoot the MV in Tainan. Scenes set at local landmarks such as the Hayashi Department Store and Chuan Mei Theater not only presented the historical ambiance of Tainan, but also drew the attention of international travelers.

Tainan City Mayor Huang Wei-che said that Tainan has always worked to combine local history with innovation as the cultural capital of Taiwan, and promote international tourism through different collaborations. He thanked the MV’s production crew for recognizing Tainan’s special features and shooting on location. The MV did not just show off Tainan’s rich cultural heritage and international charm. It also promoted cultural exchange between Taiwan and Hong Kong, and boosted traveler interest. According to MOTC Tourism Administration statistics, 972,000 travelers from Hong Kong had visited Taiwan by October this year. Hong Kong was therefore the second largest source of international travelers to Taiwan behind only Japan. The latest MV will hopefully leverage AGA’s widespread international appeal to attract more visitors from Hong Kong and overseas to Tainan. Here they can follow in the foot steps of the MV to explore the charming old streets of Tainan, the landmarks filled with stories of their own, and the unforgettable cultural ambiance.

Director-General Lin Kuo-hua from the Tourism Bureau of Tainan City Government thanked the film crew for traveling all the way to Tainan for shooting on-location. The product team thanked Tainan City Government in turn for its assistance, and praised Tainan for the interest in its local and cultural stories. In the past, the City Hall had joined forces with local businesses to take part in the International Travel Expo in Hong Kong. MOUs were signed with the Hong Kong Outbound Tour Operators’ Association (OTOA) to establish a mutually beneficial partnership with the Hong Kong tourism industry. Tainan and Hong Kong are only a short distance away from each other. The lack of language barriers, relatively low cost of living, diverse cuisine and growing number of new sights all make Tainan an attractive tourism destination for people in Hong Kong.

The Hong Kong office of MOTC Tourism Administration is seeking to capitalize on the MV’s popularity by partnering with Universal Records and the Hong Kong travel agency Holication to launch “fan tours” at the end of this month (December). The tour will invite AGA fans to relive unforgettable scenes from the MV. The itinerary will include a visit to shooting locations such as the hundred year-old Hayashi Department Store and nostalgia-filled Chuan Mei Theater. Professional tour guides will lead participants on an in-depth experience of Tainan’s rich culture and history. The chance encounter at the convenience store and emotional scenes from the MV combine a sense of regret with yearning. The sophisticated treatment added to the narrative tension of the MV. Distinctive landmarks such as the Hayashi Department Store and Chuan Mei Theater injected their own unique cultural connotations into the urban storytelling of the MV. As the music video spreads, it will introduce the allure and culture of Tainan to an even broader international audience, and inspire their urge to explore.
