The venue is currently open only when performances or related events are taking place. For the latest updates, please visit the Facebook page for the PlayNest.
Nestled in Tainan’s East District, the PlayNest is operated by Ming Hwa Yuan Arts and Cultural Group, one of Taiwan’s best-known Taiwanese opera companies. The building began life as a weightlifting venue constructed in 1994. With support from the Cultural Affairs Bureau, Tainan City Government, it has since taken on a new role as an arts venue dedicated to preserving, carrying on, and promoting the art of Taiwanese opera.
The PlayNest is a “living home for Taiwanese opera.” Visitors can catch a performance, learn the craft, browse opera-themed souvenirs, and discover how this century-old art form has evolved and endured, from local religious traditions and temple festivals to modern performances.
