Introduce

The “Denhime House” (Electric Princess House) was completed by the wealthy Chen family in 1938. Its old name was a combination of “Den” (electricity) meaning movies and “Hime” (princess) to imply wealth and status. It was used as a cinema and as a cabaret until its closure in 1987. Director Hou Hsiao-shen shot the short film “Electric Princess House” here in 2007. The entire film was shot inside the building and the cinema was temporarily restored to its former glory. The building’s interior is not open to the public right now but its exterior is still well worth a close look.
