be sure to visit the hot springs
So, if you made it up here, you should have enjoyed the beautiful scenery on the way up. Be sure to visit the hot springs and some great Grilled Chicken afterwards. However there is only one thats really good, so make sure you ask the locals, or me :) However, I think trip advisor is giving me trouble posting in english........

Great place to getaway from the cities
Although not much over here, but love the muddy hot spring! Great for rest & relax. Do not forget to try the famous mushroom tea leave egg and beancurd. Yummy! -

Perfect for a day or weekend in the mountains of Tainan
I did this trip a few times already, take train to XinYing town, rent a scooter (just left around corner of station 500nt) and drive up all the way to the mountain! you may make ~2 short stops for orchid farm, burning water (sounds exciting but isnt) the big temple complex, movie village, a water basin, a awesome mountain temple, sightseeing spots and of course chicken in pot (many restaurants along the mountain) ... however, they key destination is the famous Guanziling Mud hotspring! go to KingsGarden public pool, i'm certain this is the best. Kings Garden mudspa has about 10 different pools with mud, tea, wood, 'flavors' and you can go sauna's, fish-eating-your-toes, water'jets' massaging your body and more things. yes it is really really awsome. pls note, go for the public baths, prive tubs in overpriced hotel rooms are like dirlty bathrooms because of the mud (well.. my opinion). in the public baths you should wear a cap to cover your hair, and altough im young and a foreigner, 95% of the guest are local, mid-age or old and wearing fashion from 60's. this is not a hipster thing, but really relaxing and cultural. fyi, mud is just like water, its not like sticky clay pools, but they claim its super healthy and i saw a local grandma proving this pretty well http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g293912-d1633174-r281513924-Guanziling_Hot_Spring-Tainan.html# -

Good excursion from Tainan
After visiting Anping, we visited guanziling to enjoy the mud spring. Somehow transport isn't a big problem as we initially thought though it took around 2 hours to get there from Tainan: train of 27 minutes (tseqiang, may be longer if take other train that stops at more stations); yellow bus took less than 20 minutes to get to baihe interchange and another connecting y12 or y13 bus took another 20 minutes to get to the hill. Don't worry about the extra waiting time as the two yellow buses are scheduled to match with each other. So transportation isn't a problem Went to KGV hot spring, the most popular destination. Entrance fee was 350 during weekdays. Most of the hot springs are covered so no problem even to visit there on a rainy day. The mud spring was not as thick as I wished, which I have already been mentally prepared for. But somehow the presence of some mud in the spring makes it a wonderful experience. Also tried the mud face mask and fish spa... The entire experience was really good so highly recommended for a visit. -

Nice experience, but not sure if it is unique
From Tainan, we took the train, followed by a bus, and then changed to another bus. Despite the changes, it was an interesting experience. Having been to various hotsprings in the world (e.g., in the dead sea, in japan), I am not sure if Guanziling is unique. However, if you are there, do try the local speciality - some chicken dish.
