Introduce

Eternal Golden Fort (億載金城), is also known as Erkunshen Fortress (二鯤鯓砲台), and is a red four-walled castle surrounded by bastions and moat on all four sides. In ancient times, the strip of turf in the center would have been used for military drills by soldiers, and when looking at the site on the map it becomes clear that it is of a particularly evenly proportioned rhombus design. Through the vicissitudes of history, the Eternal Golden Fort lost its relevance as a military stronghold, and has now become a popular tourist destination. During holidays and weekends, staff dressed as Qing soldiers re-enact gunnery drills on the fort, and this evocation of times past leaves visitors thrilled and excited. In March and April, the perimeter of the site becomes even more beautiful as the yellow flowers of Golden Trumpet trees bloom.

    A relatively modern fort

    Traveler rating:3 2019-05

The Eternal Golden Castle is actually a small fort, around 1.7 kms from Anping Old Fort. It was built by Qing Official in 1876 to safeguard the coastline of Tainan. It took us 30 minutes to walk from Anping Old Fort. The huge flat area at the middle of the fort was the resting and training ground for the soldiers. The armory, replica of huge cannons pointing towards the coastline, and the moat can be seen there. Some sources stated that the fort was built with the bricks dismantled from Fort Zeelandia. We would recommend to visit the site together with Anping Old Fort.

An interesting stroll around an historic fortress

    Traveler rating:3 2019-06

This fortification was built in 1874 to defend against Japanese invasions. Today, it offers an interesting stroll around the batteries and courtyard parade grounds, with lovely views from the walls to the river and adjacent park, which is typically full of locals going for a jog or taking an evening walk in the shade of the trees.

Won't recommend this, until you've already seen other places in Tainan. Just a small area surrounded with walls and several cannons inside.

Actually not much things to see right there. But it’s good to bring kids to walk around to spend a day.

Another great historical landmark. Worth a visit. Nice to sit and relax when the weather's good. There are boats that you could ride as well.
