Silks Place Tainan
We could have a better choice of accommodation in TainanI was an intern at Regent Taipei a few years back and their hotel brands are always my first priority choice when I travel in Taiwan. Unfortunately, another disappointment experience again after last stay at Silks Place Taroko. We were travelling to Tainan with our grandma for a family visit and I booked 2 rooms at Silks Place Tainan for a night. The hotel has done a very good job on marketing and advertising. It's indeed a beautiful hotel but not the people. Pre-arrival Arrival Experience: 1 out of 5 As we are travelling with elderly, I emailed the reservation team to make some arrangement but was given tons of robotic replies. - I requested to check-in at 2+pm so that we could get into the room after a long car journey from Taipei but was given a generic answer 'early check-in is subject to hotel's availability'. We ended up finding some alternatives to kill the time and reached hotel at 5pm. - I asked for a room on a higher floor in advance but we were checked in to level 5, which is the lowest floor among all the guest rooms. Our room was facing the carpark of Shin Kong Mitsukoshi Mall and we couldn't draw back the curtains at all the time as the headlight kept flashing into our room. - I would like to arrange some amenity for our grandma but the staff just replied 'We will arrange a welcome fruits in room', which the arrangement has been clearly stated on the hotel confirmation letter. I was not demanding any freebies and more than happy to pay for the additional arrangement but no one offered me the selections. - Upon check-in, the guest next to me was offered a welcome drink but nothing for us until I asked one for our grandma. Guest services also did not provide the luggage assistance after check-in. The team member had made 0% effort at all. Room: 4 out of 5 The room is clean, spacious with comfortable bed and understated designs with warm-hued elements. The scent of the shower amenities is always one of my favourite. Breakfast: 5 out of 5 The breakfast is included in our accommodation package. The breakfast buffet serves variety of Tainan's street food, the only thing that value for money. Gym and Pool: 4 out of 5 Well equipped and maintained facilities. Good to have a morning workout and swim session. We last minute extended our stay in Tainan but decided to spend our night with Crowne Plaza Tainan in view of the service standard.

New, comfortable, recommendedNew hotel. We had room 1426 which is on the executive floor with a separate check in/check out desk and lounge on the 14th floor. Breakfast is on level 1 (Western), level 2 (Chinese) or for a calmer time it’s worth having breakfast in the level 14 lounge. There is an in-house robot which can take the elevator to deliver water to your room (amusing). Comfortable and large room. Strange sliding door system to provide privacy for the bathroom and toilet. Not enough charging sockets. Pool large but bizarrely remains out of the sun all day. Nice staff, comfortable, recommended.
Friendliest and most helpful staffI came here for work this week and was impressed with the hotel, but most impressed with the staff. From the moment I was on the property, the staff was very attentive to my needs. They helped me with food recommendations and made suggestions for getting around the area. One of the receptionist even stopped to have a conversation with me after returning from exploring the area for food. My other comments about this hotel: the hotel is very nicely decorated with alot of art in various places. They have two breakfast locations, one for western style breakfast and the second floor has a chinese style breakfast. Both places had alot of variety. The only negative thing I would have to say about this hotel is that for some reason my bathroom on the 7th floor always smelled like food. I'm still not sure why but I will return for business and see if my next room is vf the same.
Dishonest chargesI’m not staying at the hotel and asked if I could use the pool even though I’m not a guest. They said yes and I signed in, noting again that I’m not leaving a room # since I don’t have one. A manger then forced me and my friend (who also signed in) to leave after 20 minutes and charged us $26 USD. We spoke with several staff and none asked us to pay a fee (many hotels have visitor fees). It was an embarrassing moment to be kicked out and treated like trespassers, especially when we were completely honest with them. I hope no guest has this experience
